These are the mutation cockatiels that I successfully bred in the UK prior to moving to New Zealand.

Some of the mutations like the Yellow Headed i helped to create and establish in Europe. This is just a quick overview of where New Zealand cockatiels mutation if managed correctly could evolved and reproduce. All of the mutations below could be reproduced in New Zealand now with the correct knowledge and information to pull out the genetic strains required.

Yellow Headed Cock – Sex linked

This is still a relatively new mutation which is yet to be established in the UK. With it being a sex linked mutation no matter what you pair it to you will produce Yellow Headed hens in the nest straight away all the cocks will be split Yellow Headed when paired with a normal hen.

Normal Pearl Hen – Sex Linked

This is a normal Pearl hen. This hen was paired to the Yellow Headed cock to produce Yellow Heads hens. All the cocks will be split Yellow Headed so i didn’t want to introduce any other mutations that the hen might carry. The aim was to produce pure Yellow Headed hens to establish and reproduce the mutation.

Cremino Cock – Pastleface Lutino – Sex-linked to Whitefaced

For the Pastlefaced mutation to be reproduced it has to be paired to a Whitefaced or Split Whitefaced partner. Pastleface was the stepping stone to Whitefaced so it needs the recessive gene to produce the Pastleface variation. This is one of the more complex mutations to work with.

Double Factor Silver Hen – Dominate Recessive

To produce a Double Factor Silver mutation you have to pair two Single Factor Silvers together. When you have produced the Double Factor no matter what you pair it to you will produce Single Factor Silver birds. The aim of pairing these birds together was to produce Single Factor Silver Pastlefaces also known as Platinum.Double factor Silvers can be overlooked as Albinos the important thing to note is that they do not have red eyes.

Whitefaced Pied Cock - Recessive

This mutation is quite often referred to as the reverse Whitefaced as it is predominately white unlike the normal Whitefaced mutation. Recessive mutations like this are very straight forward pair like to like to produce the same as the parents.

Whitefaced Pearl Pied Hen – Recessive Sex-Linked

This was the oldest bird in my collection and the most reliable. At 15 Years old she was always the first to lay and the most consistent and reliable parent in the aviary. She was worth her weight in gold and would not not only continually produce top quality chicks but also only lay a clutch she could comfortably raise.

Primrose Pied Cock - Recessive

Another great mutation the colour and depth of yellow in these birds are incredible. They have consistently produced over the last couple of years and I am sure they will have many more successful breeding seasons ahead. This cock bird won many shows in the UK through his presence in the cage, deep colouration and crest.

Primrose Pearl Pied Hen – Recessive

A very large bird and a very good mother to all the chicks she has produced over the years. With a good depth of yellow throughout her breast and back the chicks she produced were exceptional. The great thing about the Primrose mutation is you can intensify the colouration by breeding your most yellow Primrose birds together this will eventually produce a Buttercup.

Single Factor Silver Whitefaced Cock - Recessive

This is another mutation I produced myself the mother of this bird is the Whitefaced hen above. He has won a lot of shows in the area as he is a very big bird. This year he is paired to produce normal Whiteface's. All the cocks will be split pearl.

Normal Whitefaced Pearl Hen – Recessive Sex-Linked

This is the normal variety of the Whitefaced mutation rather than the reverse mutation as see above. The good thing about this pair is that people can see both types of the Whitefaced mutation. The normal is often overlooked which is a shame as it is equally as stunning as the predominately white reverse version.
